The Great Human Revolution, along with the Kuudrhaean Secret Coup of 2150, the Gaidann Steppe and Jungle War of 2153, and the formation of the Gaidann Circuit in 2154 marks the beginning of a century of galactic upheaval that would see human elite’s hegemony over the Milky Way toppled, known as the Hundred-Year Grand Reformation. The Great Human Revolution occurred around a hundred years after the Failed Human Revolution of 2050. The Great Human Revolution was the culmination of years of civil unrest and galactic turmoil that reached a head in 2144 with the Earth Day Massacre. At the time of the revolution, humanity, the UN, and the Gould Belt Circuit were controlled by the Sanxing Corporation and the Government of China in exile, who worked together to maintain the existence of capitalism and to facilitate it’s spread across the galaxy. This initiative by the two entities is recognized to be the cause of the 70 years of human supremacy in the galaxy, and all the turmoil that caused.
In January of 2157, the Galactic Federation began their audit into the environmental condition and geosphere of the goldilock planet at Saiph, a largely human industrial planet. This audit was a part of the Galactic Federation’s environmental survey, which recorded the environmental conditions of a million habitable planets in the galaxy. In May of 2158, the results of the survey were released. The audit and the survey found that the planet at Saiph had entered a period of global warming caused by the human presence on the planet. This coincided with similar findings on other human industrial planets, and planets where human companies had been meddling in. The goldilocks planets of multiple stars across the galaxy, including the one at Saiph, had atmospheres that were found to be undergoing a greenhouse effect that would lead to them becoming uninhabitable in 50 years if industrial practices didn’t stop. The results of the survey were revealed on the 25th, and a day later on the 26th multiple riots broke out on the human capital and Gouldian of Bellatrix. All the riots were put down by riot units, but if something wasn’t done to stem the outrage, civil outrage could have, and did turn into violent revolution. President of the Government of China in exile and Grand Councillor of the Gould Belt, Zhang Shuming, held a speech a day later on the 27th to try and calm the storm.
“Fellow humans, we are all aware of the recent report that has come out from the Galactic Federation. I want to assure you that we are not responsible for any of the things outlined in the report. Neither are my ancestors, or the Sanxing Corporation, responsible for what happened to Earth. Kuudrhaea is responsible for that dark year on Earth over a hundred years ago. I want you to all think about where we are now. We’ve made it past the great filter, we can dance among the stars as we please. Think about it! Did any of our ancestors live lives worth living? They were born long after they could explore the planet, and long before they could explore the universe. We are truly lucky to be here, where we are at today! My ancestors are the saviors of humanity. They rescued it from extermination. They made hard-earned sacrifices to get us where we are at today, and we are better for it. Please, go back home, enjoy the lives you’ve got. Nobody is responsible for any of the catastrophes outlined in that report. We at the Council and our benefactors at the Sanxing Corporation have been working tirelessly to bring prosperity to Humanity. I’ll tell you this. I have all of humanity in my heart. Go home.”
The speech was not well received. Not long after, recordings of the Sanxing CEO badmouthing the shipyard workers at Saiph was leaked. “If you go to Saiph, they’ll all start falling to their knees like they’re worshipping you. It’s like you’re walking around with golden boots. They won’t stop kissing your feet.” A year later, multiple human planets in the Gould Belt were in open revolt, and all order on Bellatrix had broken down. The United Nations assemblage had been raided by an angry mob, and revolutionary paramilitaries were making their way through the capital, to the Gould Belt Council building to capture the President. The site of the Government of China in exile, alongside most of the other governments in exile, had been raided. Most of the representatives in the governments had either been killed or gone into hiding. All of the Sanxing offices, including the head office, on Bellatrix had also been raided and looted.
At first, the other races of the Gould Belt were unsure whether or not to support the revolution. As tides turned in the favor of the revolution, and it became clear that the position of the revolution was to do away with the current system of human hegemony, the other races of the Gould Belt put their full weight behind the revolution, causing the government of the Gould Belt Circuit to split entirely. Only the Council remained united.
In November of 2158, the revolutionaries were just a few blocks from the Council building. There, Zhang Shuming had insisted on hiding in the building with the rest of the councillors from the Pleiades, Alessian Kuudrhaea, Menkhib, South Alessia, and Vellia. Some of the delegates who had fled from the UN building were also there, including the delegates from Tuva, South Africa, and Vietnam. The revolutionaries themselves were followed by a mob of people, and as the group approached, the alien councillors and the remaining delegates decided to hand Zhang Shuming over to the mob. The Council and the delegates turned off the defenses, and opened the door for the revolutionaries, bringing to them Zhang Shuming, who was then tied up and dragged out to the crowd. What happened next is very hazy. Jabril ibn Said, the leader of the revolutionary group that had seized control over Bellatrix, who at that point was leading that group of revolutionaries and their supporters to the Council building, makes some weird claims about the events that followed. According to Jabril, Zhang Shuming, once brought to his knees, rubbed his eyes with his bound feet, and looked up to Jabril with a look of bewilderment. “He looked at me, with a crazed look in his eyes, and asked me if I was his father. That pissed me off so bad that I just swung at his face with my rifle.” The crowd proceeded to beat the Grand Councillor to death.
After this, the myriad human revolutionary groups and the governments of the alien planets came together on Bellatrix to restore order and form a new government. A new constitution was drafted that did away with the sojourneying system of rule that had blocked so much of humanity out of the political process and maintained old human institutions like the United Nations and the national systems of government. The remaining assets of the Sanxing Corporation were liquidated and nationalized, and it was declared that the remaining shareholders and leadership of the Sanxing Corporation were galactic criminals who needed to be extradited to the Gould Belt Circuit. It was set that elections would open in August of 2161, meaning that the new provisional government would rule for three years. It would be the first time in 50 years that humanity would get to elect their own politicians. The government of the Galactic Federation at AX-918 held a vote on whether or not to recognize the new government of the Gould Belt Circuit. At that time the delegates of the Gould Belt Circuit at the Galactic Council were still with the old government, and for some reason they were allowed to vote on this decision. Furthermore, many of the alien delegates at the Galactic Council were still in the pockets of the Sanxing Corporation, so the vote came out as a slim majority against recognizing the new government. The group with Sanxing tried to pass a decision that would proclaim the new government of the Gould Belt Circuit in active rebellion against the Galactic Federation, but the group of councillors that supported the new government held a filibuster, so that no further actions could be taken for another six months.
The tension was palpable. The Gould Belt Circuit would spend the next three years dismantling the capitalist structures and systems that had persisted through the evacuation of Earth, including the structures of ownership, while arming themselves in preparation for a war against the Galactic Federation. But such a war would never come. As the next three years unfolded, thousands of revolutions, protests, and periods of civil unrest would ripple throughout the galaxy like a great wave. The Great Human Revolution and the formation of the Gaidann Circuit showed the wider galaxy that oppressive systems of human hegemony and capitalism could be resisted and thrown off. All of the councillors who were against the new government of the Gould Circuit would, over the century, be too busy handling their own internal situations to try and topple the new Gould Belt Circuit.
